DEL ROSSI LEADS TRINITY FIELD HOCKEY TO NESCAC-OPENING WIN AT CONN. COLLEGE
New London, Conn. - Senior co-captain forward Karli Del Rossi (Mantua, New Jersey) scored twice to lead the visiting Trinity College Bnatams (3-0, 1-0) to a 3-0 blanking of the Connecticut College Camels(0-2, 0-2) in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action this afternoon at Silfen Field. Trinity improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NESCAC and has yet to allow a goal in 210 minutes of play this fall. The Camels fall to 0-2 overall and in the league.
Trinity sophomore Robyn Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) assisted on both scores, while classmate Christina Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.) added a goal. Sophomore netminder Payden Sra (Pewaukee, Wisc.) had four saves to earn the shutout. Robin Edwards (Concord, Mass.) had eight saves for the Camels.
Bradley accounted for the only goal of the first half, as Trinity applied heavy pressure on a penalty corner. Edwards was able to come up with two stops from point blank range but Bradley collected the second rebound and deposited a shot inside the left post for a goal with 13:50 to go. Del Rossi and Williams connected for the second goal with 28:07 to play. The scoring tandem hooked up again with 4:58 to play.
With 21 minutes to play, the Camels pressured the Bantams off of a penalty corner. Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.) launched one from the center of the scoring circle but Sra was able to come up with the stop. Meredith Wasserman (Providence, R.I.) followed with another shot from close range but Sra was able to get a pad on the ball. Later on in the half with 14:20 to play, Kelly Watkins (San Jose, Calif.) made a nifty move to break free in front of the net but Sra was able to collect her rising shot to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Getting Ready for the season opener.
The pre-season try-outs are now behind us and classes are in full swing at Trinity. This past Sunday Trinity hosted it's annual play-day with the usual NESCAC rivals, Amherst, WIlliams, Conn College, and Wesleyan. This year Vassar, Smith, and first time participant Hamilton making the journey from Upstate NY rounded out the field. The day was picture perfect with great play and beautiful weather. Trinity was able to show some of the skills learned in Argentina, and ended the day with the Bants scoring with new first year talent and strong returner performances.
This weekend see the start of regular season action with non-league opponent Westfield State on Saturday morning on the Robin L. Sheppard field at 11:00 am.
If you plan on attending the game bring your rain gear as the weather is not looking too favorable for the opener :(
Game results and updates will be posted to this address through-out the season. Your comments are welcome. Thanks for the support.

Last Day :(
Sunday and Monday were spent celebrating the holiday weekend shopping at the Paseo Recoleta (an artisan market) and was topped off with an evening of tango lessons. The artisan's market was filled with local trinkets and artwork where the girls worked on their negotiating skills. Later on the girls showed off their footwork skills at the Armenian Community Center during tango lessons. Some of the girls definitely mastered the tango moves, while others danced to rock'n'roll favorites joined by their coaches. Needless to say, yesterday was packed full of adventure and new experiences.
With a day off from field hockey we were all set for our clinic with Claedio, a former Argentinian national team coach, where we focused on passing tactics of the game. We returned to the hotel and went out to a spaghetti and ravioli lunch, re-fueling ourselves for the evening game against Gimnasia y Esgrima de Buenos Aires (GEBA). GEBA composed of 17-year-old players who could pass on a dime and sprint like the wind. The Bants are hoping to emulate this style of play for the 2008 season.
For those interested in flight information:
Our flight will return at 8:00AM (LAN Airlines Flight 532), however by the time we clear customs those catching the van back to Trinity should be leaving between 9:00-9:30AM. If all goes well, we are planning to arrive back to Trinity between 12:00-1:00, HOWEVER traffic is trouble. Expect a call from your daughter in regards to a more accurate ETA. If anyone needs to get in contact with me, please call my cell phone (860-214-6544).

Paseo Recoleta
The time is flying by with so much activity everyday. Saturday (yesterday) we traveled about an hour out of Buenos Aires to Estancia Santa Susana, which is a traditional Argintine horse ranch. We all rode a horse first. Although this was an interesting experience for some on the team (some had never been on a horse before) the horses knew to follow the one in front and we just walked around the field and back to the start.
The ranch is owned by a Gaucho very involved in Polo which is very popular here. We passed by the staduim where they have the national championships and it's a big as Fenway Park. WHen the finals are underway the streets are full of people. Our tour guide/host Iggie has been filling us in on all the history and interesting facts. He has been amazing running around making sure everyone knows where to use the ATM or doing the uniform laundry after games. He is with us the whole time we are out and about. After the riding we were treated to a barbecue which was served at sit down tables in a beautiful thatch building. We ate salada and tons of amazing roast beef, chicken, sausage, and black sausage (blood). Then the floor show began with traditional Gaucho (cowboy) dancing.
From there we drove back to the city and stopped to watch a Chilean men's hockey team play against an Argentine club team. The speed of play is great to watch, half of the time you can't even see the ball it moves so fast.
Today which is Sunday we are off to the Paseo Recoleta which is a local artisians market. The team should be able to be able to pick up some good gifts to bring home. Then this evening we are having Tango lessons and dinner somewhere that Iggie has arranged for use.
SIgning off for now.

Lots of Hockey
It's Friday evening at 10:50 pm and were just getting back from our third game in three days!!! The level of play is really amazing here. Yesterday we were really tried in our game and lost 3-2. Tonight we played a better team, lost the game but played much better hockey. It has been action packed days every day since we arrived. This morning we had a practice from 9-10:30, back to the hotel for a quick show and lunch and then traveled about an hour out of the city to a very poor region. We visited co-operative run by donation from many of the embassy's here in the Argentina. There was also a school with about 30 5-6 year olds which the players played with and showed them how to play hockey. We then gave out some gifts and candy to the children. The co-operative makes and sells T-Shirts and clothing items sold in the city to help support the school. It was an amazing experience for the team, and certainly make you realize just how lucky we are. From the school we travel to the club we played tonight. I could tell how intimidated the team was when we walked through the gates of the club and were welcomed by tons of people of all ages playing rugby and hockey at this beautiful club. The players tonight ranged from 16-18 years old. Many of them have been paying together since they were 8 years old. They were all very fast and has great stick skills. The style of play here is very different from the US with great close stick skills. I am hoping this inspires the players to practice even more!!!!
The team is very sore, so tomorrow they can sleep in a little before we go to the Range for a demonstration of traditional ranching, and a BBQ.
Every night has been late as Argentina doesn't seem to sleep until after 2pm.
Signing off for now.

First Day
We all arrived safely in Argentina. Payden missed her connection in NY due to bad weather on route. After making the later connection at JFK she flew to Lima, Santiago and finally arrived at 5:30 last night. AFter we all got to the hotel we had a city tour which was great, but 2 more hour on a bus after the plane rides some of he team were falling asleep.
The evening was rounded off with the best steak dinner at a really nice resturant finishing with ice cream and coffee. By the time we all went to bed I could have slept standing up, but it was nice to have them all together. Our hotel is great, located in the center of the city with lots of good places to eat and very safe to walk around.
This morning Wednesday we had breakfast at the hotel. Eggs, cereal, cold ham and bread, all excellent before off for our first practice which was run by one of the top coaches here in the city. I am now in an internet cafe trying to understand the blog in Spainish to try and send something out. The key board has all the letters missing so please excuse my typing.
The team now has some free time to walk aound explore and have a late lunch. Tonight we play our first match at 9;30pm. We have dinner following the match. Things here in Argentina usually open very late, so eating in the evening doesn´t begin usually until 9-10 pm. The night clubs don´t open until 1pm. Don´t worry everyone will be too tried by that time and will be safely tucked up in bed.
Will try to post tomorrow to let everyone know the game result.
For now it´s Anne signiong off from Buenoes Aires.
